About him
I've been a stereotypical IT guy for most of the last 30 years - long hours, lots of caffeine, strange electronic equipment that no-one else understands...
Then again, work has allowed me to travel widely and I've enjoyed a variety of cultures and lifestyles over the years.
For the last few years I've been settled here in Essex and my work life has become more settled too - I still enjoy it and probably always will but no more months at the other side of the world.
I've always taken the view that if I'm not enjoying my life as it is then I need to change it and this is one of those moments.
Ok, what else? When I look hard at myself, I realise that the single life-long interest that I've had is photography though I've never been great at it, I do have many memories recorded as a result.
I'm a practical person and can turn my hand to most things. Except music, I never mastered playing an instrument and as a result I love any music, especially live, as I respect anyone that can play.
What else remains? I guess that the only remaining thing is my view on life.
I grew up in industrial West Yorkshire, in a mill town, and so I have strong views on society. I work in the Co-operative movement, which was a conscious choice.
That view of life led to me developing as a caring person, which I remain in spite of being battered and bruised at times.

I'm not sure that establishing a 'tick-list' is such a great idea as one thing that I've found is that many people I've met in my life have had the depth to cast off their shell.
